Former British Legion Club in Druids Heath could be turned into homes

A development proposal has been submitted to Birmingham City Council to transform the former British Legion Club in Druids Heath, which has been empty for the past five years, into a housing development. The plans include the construction of 17 apartments and four houses on the Bells Lane site. The new residential homes will be designed to be “affordable” with a focus on sustainability and high quality design, and will be three storeys tall. The development will also feature parking access, communal open space, and landscaping. The former British Legion building on the site was demolished earlier last year.

Documents submitted as part of the planning application say: “The proposed development on behalf of Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust for the development of 17 apartments and 4 houses (100% affordable homes) with associated new access, parking, communal open space and landscaping on the former Royal British Legion site, Bells Lane, Birmingham presents a high quality, well designed and integrated scheme that will deliver new dwellings on a brownfield site in a
sustainable urban area.”

The site has previously been touted for a restaurant development causing a divide amongst residents. Planning application documents for Bells Lane can be viewed here with the reference number 2022/08203/PA.
